S. P. Dendy was born in Pickens District on May 28, 1839. He attended South Carolina College (USC).  When he enlisted in the 2nd Reg't Rifles SC Vols with the rank of Lieutenant  of Co. C.  Later he served as a Captain and Major. He married Alice E. Sitton. After the war he served as a judge in Walhalla and in the South Carolina State legislature. He is buried in Westview Cemetery in Walhalla, SC.
