Thomas H. Boggs (1823-1862)

Born near the present day town of Liberty, in Pickens County, SC on May 6, 1823. Thomas H. Boggs was a farmer in the Pickens District. When he enlisted in the 2nd Reg't Rifles SC Vols he served as a Captain of Co. E. He later was promoted to the rank of Major and Lieutenant Colonel within the unit. While recovering from an illness Lt. Col. Boggs died at his home in the Summer of 1862. He is buried at Carmel Presbyterian Church.  Boggs Mountain near Liberty, SC is named after his family.
